Book title; Meet Lina                      Author: Sally Rippin

 

Lina is a migrant from Italy. Lina’s  family has migrated after the war. Lina very intelligent, and gets a scholarship to St Brigid’s Ladies College.

I have realised what life was like in the 1956. Over the series  I noticed that life was much harder than it is today. What I want to discover is about the richer parents. Where do they find there riches?

Though the book is fiction, it is realistically real. The book is very much about history and reflecting on Lina’s life.

At the moment I’m reading ‘The Wind in the Willows’ By Kenneth Grahame.

Badger has had a big conversation with Toad; he is trying to persuade him to stop driving motor-cars.  I believe Toad has a strong adrenalin pushing to great lengths which leads him to disaster situations.

Toad has escaped from his bedroom when Rat left his house. He has tied old bed sheets together and escaped in his best tuxedo, cash and ran the oppisite direction Rat went.

I have finished the chapter; Mr Toad. Toad has stolen a motor-car and cheeked the police-men as punishment he has 20 years imprisonment. I wonder what Badger, Mole and Rat are thinking right now. They must be devastated and irritated.

Rat & Mole are bothered and restless so they have decided to help their friend Otter; in his search for his son, Portly. They have landed on an island off the bank in search for Portly. Soon they find the young son of Otter but he is very weak and frightened.

I’ve finished the chapter ‘Wayfares All’. Toad has escaped from prison disgusised as a washer-woman. Rat has met a friend on the ship. Who soon puts him into a trance making him believe his destiny is laying on the horizan. Though Mole has come to Rat’s rescue.

 

Reading Goal: To draw conclusions and make infrences while I read.

 

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas.

At the moment I’m reading ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’ by John Boyne.

Bruno has relised that there is something odd is happening outside his window. He is teasing his sister Gretel; who is very nervous about what is going on. I believe it is a Jewish camp; but I’m very suspicious about Bruno’s Father. I wonder what job he has and what that job demostrates. Not only does the reader not know his job but even Bruno his son has no idea. This is not very fatherly.

Predict: Marilla & Matthew Cuthbert will keep the asylum child Anne

 

Question: Will Anne live up to Marilla’s expectation?

Clarify: Gables- is it just the name of the farm?

Connect: The story I’m currently writing is about an orphan too. This relates to Anne’s history.

Summary: Matthew and Marilla are deciding wether or not to keep Anne or take her back to the Asylum. They wanted a boy but received a girl.

Predict: Anne will apologise to Mrs Rachel Lynde eventually

Question: Does Anne find a ‘bosom friend’?

Clarify: Vexed, Apparently Marilla is feeling that at the moment

Connect: Most parents force there children to apologise when they commit the wrong thing

 

Summary: Mrs Rachel Lynde has come over to Green Gables to see the orphan Marilla and Matthew have adopted. Though her first in impression to Anne is said allowed an Anne has taken offence to the insult of her looks and has raised harsh words upon Mrs Rachel Lynde. Now Marilla is forcing Anne to apologies to  Mrs Rachel Lynde. Yet Anne insists on staying in her room and never apologising to Mrs Rachel Lynde.

Predict: The Great Fire of 1666 has started

Question: Do all the Paytons survive and their maid Maggie?

Clarify: Apothecary- it’s some what related to a pharmacist

Connect: Big fires ripped through Victoria (Black Saturday) and likewise with London’s fire (The Great Fire)

 

Summary:

The plague has finally passed and since Aunt Nell died, Alice is forced to become the Mistress of the house hold. Though when a fire strikes in London thousands of people are forced to flee their home’s.

Alice and Maggie where casually strolling along the river Thames when a man is thrown into the water. In the process of trying to save the man, news breaks that the fire is out of control and every should evacuate London with their valuables.

Day: 6/11/14

 

Predict: That Anne will be in trouble at home and at school after what she committed to Gilbert Blythe.

 

Question: Will Matthew Cuthbert have a say in Anne’s behaviour?

Clarify: Vengeance, Anne is was feeling this after Gilbert called her ‘Carrot’.

Connect: I would react the same if someone assaulted me about my physical description or appearance.

 

Summary:

Anne has thrown a slate over Gilbert’s head. She did this because he called her carrot since her hair is red. I do not understand why she would resort to violence.

Predict: That Mrs Barry will allow Diana to be friends after Anne saved her daughter (Minnie May) from croupe

 

Question: Does Marilla accept Mrs Barry’s offer to reassure Anne and Diana’s friendship

 

Clarify: Ipecac, it is a medication that help eases croupe

 

Connect: My friend’s sister once had hoping cough

 

Summary:

Diana and Anne are no longer friends due to Anne’s mistake of intoxicating Diana with current wine (Mistaken for raspberry cordial). Diana has ran to Green Gable to fetch Anne who will help her bring her sister to good health as she abruptly came down with croupe.
